BSSO (or bilateral sagittal split osteotomy) is a cut in the lower jaw (mandible), which allows movement of the lower jaw in any directions:

What is BSSO used for?
The BSSO osteotomy is very useful to correct various jaw abnormalities and malocclusion.
✅ BSSO advancement is used to treat a retrusive lower jaw (class 2 malocclusion or overbite)
✅ BSSO setback is used to treat a protrusive lower jaw (class 3 malocclusion or underbite)
