What is LeFort 1 surgery?

LeFort 1 is a cut in the upper jaw (maxilla), which allows movement of the upper jaw in any directions. The upper jaw can then be moved in any direction:

✅ Upward (LeFort 1 impaction)

✅ Downward (LeFort 1 disimpaction)

✅ Forward (LeFort 1 advancement)

✅ Backward (LeFort 1 setback)

What is LeFort 1 used for?

The LeFort 1 osteotomy us very useful to correct various jaw abnormalities and malocclusion.

✅ LeFort 1 advancement is used to treat a retrusive upper jaw (class 3 malocclusion or underbite)

✅ LeFort 1 setback is used to treat a protrusive upper jaw (class 2 malocclusion or overbite)

✅ LeFort 1 impaction is used to treat a gummy smile (vertical maxillary excess)

✅ LeFort 1 disimpaction is used to treat a short upper jaw
